How to Clean and Care for Wooden Wall Decor
Share
Wooden wall decor needs very little care, but a few habits keep it looking good for years. This guide covers dusting, moisture and what to avoid.
The short answer: dust it regularly with a soft dry cloth, keep it away from water and direct moisture, and avoid harsh cleaning chemicals.

1. Dust regularly
Wipe the surface once every week or two with a soft, dry microfibre cloth. Dust settles in the carved or textured parts of a design, so use a soft brush for those areas.
2. Keep it away from moisture
Wood does not like water. Avoid hanging decor in bathrooms or beside a kitchen sink, and wipe up splashes straight away.
3. Avoid harsh chemicals
Do not use bleach, strong cleaners or alcohol-based sprays. If a mark needs removing, use a barely damp cloth and dry the area immediately.
4. Watch the sunlight
Strong direct sunlight over a long time can fade colours on any decor. Choose a wall that is not in constant sun, or use curtains during the brightest hours.
5. Handle with care when moving
Hold the piece by the edges and avoid pressing on raised areas. If you rehang it, check that the fixings are still secure.
What to avoid
- Soaking the surface with water
- Abrasive sponges or scrubbing pads
- Hanging above a heater or in damp spots
